Laser is simply an intense beam of light, which is
pulsed into the skin. Here at Salt Clinic we use The
Epsilon Nd Yag Laser system.
This is one of the most advanced laser systems available.
It goes into the skin approximately 3-4mm and is attracted
to melanin, which is what gives hair its colour. For
this reason dark hair is the most suitable, but fairer
hair can also be treated but may require more treatments.
It may be used on skin of any colour although darker
skin colours will usually be Test Patched to determine
the safest and most efficient energy level.
Lasers remove hair by selectively heating the dark
melanin in the hair without affecting the paler surrounding
skin. The growth bulb in the follicle is affected by
the heat thus reducing or eliminating future hair growth
in that follicle.
It is a course of treatments and on average we recommend
4 to 6 treatments to get a significant reduction in
the hair. When we do the treatments it feels a bit like
a rubber band being flicked against the skin, the intensity
of which varies from person to person and the area involved.
To help you cope with the sensation, an external cooling
system more efficient than ice or an integrated cooler
is applied to the skin prior to the treatment. This
helps to numb the skin so that you may feel nothing
or a slight sting or snap.
After the treatment you can expect a slight heat and
redness in the area for about an hour or two.
During treatments we want you to avoid sun tanning
(including solariums and spray on tans), no waxing or
plucking, and no bleaching the hair. You may shave,
cut or depilatory cream the hair as often as you like,
and most clients will need to shave the area the day
before the treatment.
Common Questions!
Can it have long term health problems?
No. It is a non-ionising form of radiation, which means
that it goes straight in & out of the tissue.
Can it get rid of “in-grown” hair?
As long as the hair is not too deep the laser should
pick up the hair under the skin, killing the root and
preventing it from continuing to in-grow, thus allowing
the body to expel it naturally. Over the course of treatments,
there should be a good reduction of ingrown with many
people being ingrown free. Remember to not pick at them,
simply exfoliate the area with a synthetic mitt or cloth.
Can any area be treated?
Yes. All areas can be treated & our therapists have
had experience in treating the whole body.
